It’s been a while, but in the spirit of thanksgiving and turning another year older this week, I felt like writing. This post is also inspired by a friend’s recent blog post, which I’ve shared on my Facebook page.
I don’t know about y’all, but I am convicted often about not being proud of or grateful for the small victories or sometimes even the big achievements in my life. I often feel like those successes have an expiration date on them, which is ridiculous I know. I have been challenging myself lately to reflect and be proud of how far I have come.
I think one reason we struggle with this is the culture we now live in that is largely created by social media. Social media in my opinion, often makes privacy non-existent. There’s almost an expectation nowadays that we should share everything that’s going on in our lives. This makes it so easy to fall into the trappings of comparison, which I’m sure you’ve heard is,the thief of joy. Logic would tell us that of course it would be hard to be proud of your accomplishments when you’re always comparing them to somebody else’s. The truth is everyone is on their own journey.
God has a specific plan for each person. I believe that . You may not be moving as fast as you perceive others to be moving, but that doesn’t mean you are stuck. I feel that in my personal journey the Lord has had me in a season of dormancy so that he can allow me to work on me and prepare me for whatever he has next. It hasn’t been easy, but I’ve definitely learned a lot and he has revealed a lot to me. If you feel like you’re in a similar season, I want to encourage you that you aren’t stagnant. He just wants you to be still take this season for what it is. Also, remember, you don’t have to share everything that’s going on your life and open yourself up to judgment or falling into comparison culture. The great philosopher, Lil Wayne said real G’s moving silence. I never thought I would reference Lil Wayne and the apostle Paul in the same post but I think he has a point.
Be proud of what you’ve accomplished. Everyone’s overcome something. Everyone’s had doubt cast on them and doubted themselves, but they’ve beat it. Remember to celebrate your friends’ victories while you wait Just because you haven’t met that next milestone that (You) have created, you aren’t a failure. Your past victories haven’t lost value.
Remember God did it before; he’ll do it again. His timing is perfect . He is never changing. He never stops working, even when we don’t see it. Philippians 1:6 tells us to be confident because he has begun a good work in us and will see that work through until the day of Christ Jesus. So, friends be proud of yourselves today. Celebrate your victories. Trust that more will come, and in case no one has told you lately, I am proud of you.
